- The On-Campus Experience--Why Live on Campus?
-
Studies continue to show that students who live on campus perform better academically, have more contact with faculty, and are generally more satisfied with their overall college experience. Living on campus brings many advantages, including convenient access to campus resources, dining services, the support of our professional and student staff, and many opportunities to form new friendships and a sense of community. Another practical benefit of on-campus housing is that your housing contract locks in your housing costs for the full academic year. If your roommate leaves mid-year, you will not be asked to pay additional rent or find another roommate yourself.
- Dining Services
- Students living in Campus Village, Arroyo Vista, Vista del Campo Norte or off campus can select from a wide range of optional meal plans to suit their particular needs. Each Voluntary Meal Plan comes with a meal allowance and FlexDine dollars. Use your meal plan at all residence hall community dining facilities and at on-campus retail dining locations. Visit the UCI Dining Web site for sample menus and more information on meal plan options: www.ucidining.com.
- Safety & Security
-
Safety and security are of the utmost importance in each of our on-campus communities. Emergency phones, which connect directly to the UCI Police Department, are located within each housing community and throughout the campus. UCI also provides a safety escort service for students who are traveling by foot at night. Although there is no curfew in any on-campus community, all residential facilities are locked 24 hours a day. Residents’ keys open the front doors to apartments and houses, as well as individual rooms in Arroyo Vista, allowing them to come and go as they please. Residents are discouraged from permitting access to strangers, propping doors open, or leaving their doors unlocked.
- How are roommates assigned?
-
Roommate assignments are made with the help of information you provide on the Personal Information Form, which, you will receive with your Housing Contract (see above). All assigned roommates are of the same gender. Other factors heavily weighed are smoking/non-smoking requests, and sleeping habits.
- What if I've already picked a roommate?
- If you and a friend who is also entering UCI want to room together, you can make such a request on the Personal Information Form that you will receive with your housing contract. To do so, BOTH of you must hold contracts for the same community and BOTH must mutually request one another on your respective Personal Information Forms. While every attempt will be made to honor your request, placement with a particular roommate is not guaranteed.
- When will I find out about my room/roommate assignment?
-
Assignment notification will be mailed in early September.
- How far are the housing communities from the center of campus?
- Campus Village is located on the edge of Ring Road near the Science Library between the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Humanities. Campus Village is close to the center of campus and most classes.
Arroyo Vista is located next to the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) on the east campus. The walk to campus is about 15 minutes. You can also use the free ASUCI shuttle service which brings students to and around the campus.
Vista del Campo Norte is located on the east campus near Arroyo Vista, with free ASUCI shuttle service available. - How many people share a bathroom?
- In Campus Village, each apartment has 1 bathroom for the 4 residents of the apartment. In Arroyo Vista Houses, 8 to 12 students of the same gender share a bathroom on their floor that has multiple sinks, showers and toilets. Some spaces in Vista del Campo Norte have private baths, and some share a bath with one other person.
- Are there facilities for washing and drying clothes?
-
In Campus Village there are 2 coin-operated laundry rooms, which are open 24 hours for all CV residents. In Arroyo Vista, coin-operated washers and dryers are located in each house. Most spaces in Vista del Campo Norte that will be offered to transfers have a washer and dryer in the apartment.
- What kinds of housekeeping services are provided?
-
In Arroyo Vista, housekeeping services for public areas (including house bathrooms) are provided on a daily basis, Monday through Friday. Individual rooms are NOT cleaned by the housekeeping staff, although vacuums are available for resident use. Roommates are expected to work together to keep individual rooms clean.
Campus Village and Vista del Campo Norte residents are responsible for cleaning their own apartments. - What is the alcohol policy?
-
Only residents who are of legal drinking age (21) may consume alcohol in the privacy of his/her room or apartment. Alcohol is not allowed in lounges, study areas, or any other "public" space.
- Can I bring my car? Where do I park?
-
Parking on campus requires a parking permit. Arroyo Vista and Campus Village residents can purchase a Resident parking permit from the UCI Parking & Transportation Services office. For rates and information, please visit www.parking.uci.edu
