Incoming Students Placed on the Waitlist
PLEASE NOTE: Once the requirements of the housing guarantee program are met, waitlist applicants will be served in date order and assigned throughout the summer as space permits. |
- Are there priorities for placements from the waitlist?
- Priorities are given to families with children and graduate guarantee students.
- Can I get on-campus housing if I am not an incoming Ph. D. or a M.F.A. student? And if so, what is the average wait-time?
- After placement of incoming Ph. D. and M.F.A. students who meet the 5/1/08 submission deadline, we will offer on-campus housing in Verano Place and Palo Verde to eligible waitlist applicants for remaining spaces.

The time between application and offer of an apartment varies depending on space allocation, which assignment category you are in, number of applicants in your Assignment Category with an earlier application date, type of apartment requested, and desired move-in month. - What happens for Medical School, Merage School of Business, other Master’s students, and undergrads without children? What is the application process? If there is a waiting list, and once they get in, how long do they get to stay?
- Students in these categories may apply to get on the waitlist for Graduate and Family Housing. They will be assigned after the guaranteed students, on a first-come, first-served basis, and according to their assignment category. There is no guarantee for this offer and they will have an academic year lease ending
June 30, 2008. Residents will be notified of lease renewal options during Spring Quarter. - What about current Ph. D. students who don’t live on campus right now? If they apply and get a space, what is their length of stay limit?
- Ph. D. students who are offered Graduate and Family Housing from the wait-list will sign an annual lease. Requests for lease renewal will be based on space availability. If space allows, Ph.D. students are eligible to remain in Graduate and Family housing for one year less than normative time to degree (beginning when they enroll at UCI).
Please note that normative time to degree may not equal the actual time to degree for each student. Consult your graduate advisor if you have questions about your time to degree.
- Will the waitlist still be date ordered?
- Yes, waitlist applicants will be offered housing according to their application date within a given assignment category.
- Will students with children be given any assignment preference?
- During the lease renewal process, preference will be given to students with children.
