Guaranteed housing Information
The 2012 Graduate Student Housing Guarantee
The University of California, Irvine guarantees an offer of on-campus housing to newly admitted Fall 2012 Ph.D., M.F.A., and J.D. students. Housing offers will be for one of six graduate housing communities and must be accepted prior to the first day of classes. Eligibility for housing extends until a student’s normative time to degree for their academic program.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students who are eligible service members, reservists, and veterans are guaranteed an offer of on-campus housing. Contact UCI Veteran Services for information.
|
* Normative Time to Degree may not equal the actual time to degree for each student. Consult your academic advisor if you have questions about your time to degree.
The Graduate Housing Guarantee offers:
- Security--Know that you have a place to live on-campus by the start of Fall quarter
- Convenience--Live on-campus close to classes
- Reasonable rates--Averaging lower than the local housing market, and cable tv and internet service is included
Graduate Guarantee Housing Information:
- Application instructions and a link to the online application will be sent to eligible students after they are admitted to their program. Submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and activate your UCInetID before you try to apply for housing.

Terms and Conditions
- To receive a guaranteed housing offer, students must meet the application deadlines and pay a $20 nonrefundable processing fee. The online guaranteed housing application and payment must be received by May 1, 2012 (4:30 pm PST). If paying in person, please note that Central Cashier window service hours are 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Students will receive one guaranteed offer of housing for Fall 2012 in one of six on-campus communities: Palo Verde, Verano Place, Campus Village, Vista del Campo, Vista del Campo Norte or Puerta del Sol.
- Placement in a specific community or apartment type is not guaranteed and students may be offered housing in a community that is not one of their top-ranked choices.
- The exact timing of the housing assignment will depend on apartment availability and may not match up exactly with the move-in preferences indicated, i.e., students may be asked to accept a space/unit prior to their preferred move-in date. If students accept a housing offer for a specific apartment, rent charges will begin on the date that space becomes available.
- Placement under the housing guarantee cannot be deferred to a later time. The guaranteed housing offer is only applicable to students who are admitted early enough to complete all steps in the process. Students who do not accept the University’s community assignment offer may elect to be placed on the wait-list for another community. If the student is offered placement from the wait-list on or before the first day of classes, the student will maintain their graduate guarantee for the time stated above. If the student is placed after the first day of classes, they will forfeit their graduate guarantee. This is a very risky option, as the demand for certain housing communities is very high, and should only be considered in the most extreme of personal circumstances.
- Please note that students who are offered housing from the wait-list after the first day of classes are only offered housing for the current academic year, and their housing lease agreement may or may not be renewable, based on space availability.
Please note: Students who do not submit their online housing application by May 1, 2012 4:30 p.m. (PST) (or who are not eligible for guaranteed housing) can still apply for housing and get on the wait-list. Click here for more information.
