Guaranteed housing Information
The UCI Graduate Student Housing Guarantee and Waitlist policies are currently under review. Policy changes affecting students enrolling for Fall 2010 will be posted as soon as they are available.
The 2009 UCI Graduate Student Housing Guarantee The University of California, Irvine guarantees an offer of on-campus housing to newly-admitted, full-time Ph.D., M.F.A., and J.D. students who enroll in Fall 2009. Ph.D. students will be guaranteed housing for a term of one year less than normative time to degree* for the academic program. M.F.A. and J.D. students will be provided with housing for the normative time to degree for their academic program. |
* Normative Time to Degree may not equal the actual time to degree for each student. Consult your academic advisor if you have questions about your time to degree.
The Graduate Housing Guarantee offers:
- The security of knowing that you will have a place to live on-campus by the start of Fall quarter.
- The convenience of living close to classes and campus resources
- Rental rates that may be lower than the local housing market
Graduate Guarantee Housing Information:
- Students who are eligible for guaranteed housing will be instructed on how to apply once they are admitted to their program. You must submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and activate your UCInetID before you can apply for housing. Eligible students will receive the link to the online housing application from their academic program.
- To receive a guaranteed housing offer, students must meet the application deadlines and pay a $20 nonrefundable processing fee. The online Housing guaranteed housing application and payment must be received by May 4, 2009 (4:30 pm PST).
- Students will receive one guaranteed offer of housing for Fall 2009 in one of four on-campus communities: Palo Verde, Verano Place, Vista del Campo, or Vista del Campo Norte.
- Placement in a specific community or apartment type is not guaranteed.
- Housing assignments are based on space availability and student preferences at the time they are made.
- Placement under the housing guarantee cannot be deferred to a later time. The guaranteed housing offer is only applicable to students who are admitted early enough to complete all steps in the process.
- Students who do not accept the University’s community assignment offer may elect to be placed on the wait-list for another community. If the student is offered placement from the wait-list on or before the first day of classes, the student will maintain their graduate guarantee for the time stated above. If the student is placed after the first day of classes, they will forfeit their graduate guarantee. This is a very risky option, as the demand for certain housing communities is very high, and should only be considered in the most extreme of personal circumstances.
- Please note that students who are offered housing from the wait-list after the first day of classes are only offered housing for the current academic year, and their housing lease agreement may or may not be renewable, based on space availability.
Please note: Students who do not submit their onlinehousing application by May 4, 2009 4:30 p.m. (PST) (or who are not eligible for guaranteed housing) can still apply for housing and get on the wait-list. Click here for more information.
