Eligibility for Residence in

Graduate and Family Housing

 

Full-Time Enrollment Requirement


Housing contract holders must maintain full-time enrollment at UC Irvine to remain eligible to live in Graduate and Family Housing:
  • Graduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (includes units from a TA or RA position).
  • Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units per quarter.

Course enrollment MUST be in regular UCI courses. Enrollment in courses through UCI Extension or Access (concurrent enrollment) does not count towards the "full-time enrollment" requirement.


Eligibility for Palo Verde, Verano Place, Vista del Campo, and Vista del Campo Norte:

Palo Verde Eligibility:

  • Graduate students, including law and medical students, but excluding medical residents and interns.

Verano Place Eligibility:

  • Graduate students, including law and medical students, but excluding medical residents and interns.

  • Undergraduate students with a spouse or domestic partner.

  • Undergraduate students with children.

  • Single undergraduates, 25 years or older.

Vista del Campo and Vista del Campo Norte Eligibility:

  • Single graduate students, including law and medical students (excluding medical residents and interns)

If you are married, in a domestic partnership, and/or have children, you must provide the following documentation before a housing offer can be finalized:

  • Married residents must provide a copy of their certified marriage certificate.
  • Students in a domestic partnership must provide one of the following:
    • State of California Certificate of Domestic Partnership, or
    • Certificate of domestic partnership or civil union formed in another jurisdiction, or  
    • Notarized Affidavit of Domestic Partnership that includes the following: (1) each individual is the other's sole domestic partner in a long-term, committed relationship with the intention to remain so indefinitely; (2) neither individual is legally married, a partner in another domestic partnership, or related by blood to a degree of closeness that would prohibit legal marriage in the State of California; (3) each individual is 18 years of age or older and capable of consenting to the relationship; (4) the individuals share or will share a common residence; (5) and the individuals are financially interdependent.

  • Students with children must provide a copy of their child's (children's) birth certificate(s) or proof of custody/guardianship as well as documentation verifying that the child(ren) reside(s) with the Student.
  • Students are solely responsible for immediately notifying the Housing Office in writing of any of the above changes in status.

Note: Post-Doctoral appointees are not eligible to live in Graduate and Family Housing, but may apply for on-campus housing in University Hills/Las Lomas. Please direct all questions to University Hills/Las Lomas.
