Transportation Around UC Irvine

Getting Around

Public transportation in Orange County serves nearly every community, enabling students to reach UC Irvine by bus from almost anywhere in the surrounding area. The OCTA University Pass program makes it easy for you to take advantage of this low cost ride to school.  Bus schedules are available online at www.octa.net.  Start saving money and stop hunting for parking! The Transportation Services Office, located in the Public Services building at the intersection of East Peltason and Pereira, is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., (949) 824-7486, www.parking.uci.edu.

Shuttle Bus

ASUCI Shuttle

Associated Students of UCI (ASUCI) operates an Express Shuttle from Park West Apartments in Irvine helping students save time and money getting to campus.  ASUCI also operates a free on-campus shuttle  bus which will take you where you need to be on campus.  Shuttles run Monday through Friday during the academic year.  Shuttle schedules and more information are available online at the ASUCI web site:  www.asuci.uci.edu/shuttle

Free shuttle service is also offered between the UCI Medical Center in Orange and the UCI campus through a partnership with UCIMC Transportation Services and the UCI School of Medicine. Shuttle schedules are available online at www.parking.uci.edu/AT/.

Parking

All cars and motorcycles parked at UCI, Monday through Sunday, must display a parking permit at all times, which may be purchased online at www.parking.uci.edu, or from the Transportation Services Office from 7:30 a.m. -4:00 p.m. on the corner of East Peltason Drive and Pereira Drive.

2008-09: Student commuter parking permits are available for $144 per quarter; student resident permits are $198 per quarter. Freshmen and Sophomore commuters must purchase Zone Commuter permits. Zone Commuter permits are $144 per quarter and are valid Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. in the Anteater Parking Structure, lot 1B and the ARC. After 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday, the Zone Commuter permit is valid in any unmarked stall on campus, or in non-24 hour enforced reserved stalls. A limited number of "student preferred" permits are available on a first-come, first serve basis for $594 for the academic year and are valid during the day in the reserved stalls in the lot you choose from the following list: 1, 12A, 84, the Student Center Parking Structure, Mesa Parking Structure, Anteater Parking Structure or the Social Science Parking Structure

Undergraduate students living in University Town Center, Vista del Campo or Vista del Campo Norte may not purchase commuter permits. These students may purchase evening permits (valid Monday - Friday between 5:00 p.m. and 12 a.m and all day Saturday and Sunday), motorcycle and scooter permits, and on-campus resident permits valid in lot 1B. The campus shuttle services the Vista del Campo and Vista del Campo Norte locations. Shuttle times and route information can be found at: http://www.asuci.uci.edu/shuttle/.

For parking options, visit www.parking.uci.edu. Parking lots closest to campus buildings are often crowded. Vacant spaces are more easily available in the outlying lots. A shuttle system provides access to the main campus, free of charge. Save yourself time and aggravation by going directly to lots 1B, 5, and the Mesa Parking Structure. Allow 45 minutes before class begins to find a space and walk to your destination.

Bicycles

If you live within three miles of campus, you might consider riding your bike*.  Remember, bicycles must be registered and licensed in California.  This can be done at the  UCI Police Department where you should also pick up a copy of UCI Bicycle Regulations and a UCI bike path map.

*UCI's Alternative Transportation Program offers incentives to students who commit to cycling as their primary commute mode (i.e., do not purchase a long-term parking permit). Note: Alternative transportation incentives apply only to graduate students and employees at this time due to recent budget cuts.
