Community Council General MeetingJanuary 21, 2004
+ Call to Order- Jimmy at 731pm

* The Shire, Mirkwood, Rohan, Crickhollow, and Misty Mountain were absent

* The Execs led “Getting to know you”, each delegate had a clock and made an “appointment” to see someone at each time on the clock, than at each “hour” we stated a question for them to discuss
-
* Keenan Kubrick came to talk about the ME Poker Tournament that will be at 2pm this Saturday January 24. There will be a 1-dollar donation that will go to charity. A lot of people are expected, so if you have your own set of chips and they are needed a dollar will be donated on your behalf.
* Keenan Kubrick also discussed the first of the Friday Night Picture Show Series. A Movie will be shown every other week. This week is “Strictly Ballroom” showing at 7pm in ELH. This is Baz Lurman (the director of Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet’s first movie)
* Harvin Sethi and Julienne came to talk about Bended like Bekham, which will be shown this Sunday January 25 at 7pm in Bucklebury. There will be food, drinks, and discussion of issues in the movie.
* Harvin Sethi and Julienne also discussed the Super Bowl Bash that will be in BSC, there will also be food and drinks as well as a gift certificate for the closes estimate to the end score.
* Harvin Sethi promoted the CIA and encouraged residents to come to to the UCI (in the 10th place ) playing UCLA (in 2nd place) this Friday at the Bren Event Center at 7pm
* Jimmy Tong introduced the idea of $how ME the MONEY. Due to the fee increases we want to create a scholarship for a ME resident. Our goal is $1,000 and Manuel Gomez has agreed to match whatever we raise.

= Priyanka Thairani discussed one of the fundraiser ideas. We want to create a t-shirt design so that we can use some money towards the scholarship. If you have any ideas on designs or on other fundraisers e-mail her at pthairan@uci.edu

= Dodge ball Tournament starts week three at 7pm.
Attendance for all first games will count towards the Hall Olympic Program points. The hall that wins the HOP receives a pizza party in the BSC. The first game will be Rivendell against Quenya
= First annual Foosball Tournament will be from week 4 to week 7. You can sign up in the BSC
= There will be a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Wednesday February 25th of Week 7
= There will be a BSC dance week 7 on Friday, February 27th
* Jimmy Tong announced that there will be a vegetarian dine with the directors. Tuesday January 27 at 5:30pm, a sign up sheet went around to be returned to Jimmy at the end of the meeting
* Jimmy also asked three questions regarding residential dining

= If there was late night dining Thursdays, do you feel residents would still attend, despite the fact that Thursday night is premium night. There was an overwhelming yes to the response.
= If weekend hours were extended to include a brunch between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday would this be helpful. There was an overwhelming yes
= If we added unlimited and 10 meal to the list of choices would that be helpful. Most did not like the idea of unlimited meals and most liked the idea of 10 meals.
* Tammy Nguyen discussed the Community Council Retreat, it will be off campus on Saturday 28th, there was a sheet that went around to see if delegates were interested and would like to go.
* Laurie Andress announced KUDOS! Each meeting we will be giving a Kudos award to those people that have stood out as making a contribution to community council. They receive a Kudos bar

= Laurie Andress gave out the first awards to Allie and Nicole for their work on the Say What Karaoke event that occurred last Monday.
= Lisa Ly gave an award to Caroline for her work and persistence in the recycling program, and also announced that bins are here.

- =There will be a Henna/ Button Making Coffee House on Sunday February 1st at 7pm in Gandalf’s Classroom
= Live Nude People will be having a marathon this Friday from 11-7
= There is plans for a Counter Strike Tournament that will take place February 21st

= For the next issue we are encouraging lots of Crush longs because of Valentine’s day
= Newsletter Meetings are Every Monday at 8pm. All are welcome to come
= The January Issue is completed and should be out soon

= “Share Your Blood, Save a Life” Blood Drive is this Thursday January 22nd from 12-7pm. There is a critical blood shortage to the point where they have to turn down surgeries. Walk-Ins are welcome. You get a free t-shirt or a coupon for a free pint of ice cream
= The Recycling Bins are here
= There will a Penny Drive during weeks three and four and it will be a hall competition
= There will be Valentine’s Day Gram’s for sale, coming soon.
