· Interested in being ME tour-guide for prospective students during Celebrate UCI on Saturday April 19th, 2003? There are sign up sheets by the agendas. There will be a training session Thursday, April 10th at 7 p.m. in Gandalf’s.
· CC website will probably go officially online before next meeting, so we will email you the URL, and it will also be linked to the ME website. Check it out for info on events, news, CC meeting minutes, etc. Please advertise the site to fellow residents. It is a great source of info on ME events.
· Next meeting (Wednesday, April 16th) is an elections meeting. Candidates will give speeches. Vote by ballot after speeches. If an “official” voting delegate cannot attend the meeting, an alternate may vote in his or her place. Even if you are not voting, please still come to support candidates and to hear announcements. Also, depending on how much time we have left, we might still conduct official business.
V. Committee Announcements
· Services: Help needed with Clothesline Project this Thursday in Bucklebury. This is where the UCI Rape Center shows t-shirts on Ring Road. We need help with Set-up @ 5/5:30, during the program from 6 to 9, and then with clean up that shouldn’t go past 10 p.m.
· Take Back the Night Vigil: Thursday, April 17th in Bucklebury. The event is about sexual assault and will include a slideshow with guest speakers.
VI. Open Floor
· Wayzgoose, part of Celebrate UCI (Saturday, April 19th): Should CC operate a booth or not? Who would be interested in leading and/or participating in this effort? For profit or charity?
· Question from Dennis Diplacito, Director of ME Housing: Is there a need for workshop for residents who are experiencing stress because of, or have family or friends involved in, the war in Iraq? Discussion would be led by someone from the Counseling Center.
-Carrie Song: Yah. I think so.
-Marlen Kanagui: Personally, not for me. But there could be people not dealing with it well. But I suggest we put on more of an informative session. And I think we should have stronger support for the troops, regardless of whether or not you agree with the war. We could distribute yellow ribbons.
-Carlos Feliciano: We could write letters to the troops, cards, etc.
-Kevin Siu: Perhaps the program could be more geared towards the reasons behind the war. A lot of people have no idea why we’re at war.
-Nimish Parekh: Perhaps a Middle East history class with a non-bias speaker.
-Jimmy Tong: Yah, I’d like to know what factors caused the war. And we could also learn the different effects of war, economical, sociological, etc.
-A lot of residents are against the war. But they don’t know what to do. They don’t really know what they can do to voice their concern or how they can help.
· BSC update- Shelly Bujo
-Dodge ball Results: 1st Mirkwood, 2nd Balin, 3rd Misty Mountain
-Volleyball Tournament later on this quarter
-BSC Week: we’ll have pool, b-ball, an open house, and rewarding the first place hall.
-Fitness Competition soon. “The M.E. strongest man and women contest,” pushups, weight lifting, etc.
VII. Break up into Committees. Email CC with any important info you need to get to us before the next meeting.
