There are many opportunities for students to become involved in the Mesa Court community. We encourage students who are interested in one of these leadership positions to call or come by the Mesa Court Office for more information. We also encourage interested students to talk with current student leaders about their responsibilities and experiences.

Application Process & Timelines The application process for Resident Advisors and Community Programmers begins in Fall Quarter, so start thinking about this early. Interviews will take place during the winter quarter. Successful candidates will be required to take a training class during the spring quarter prior to beginning their resident advisor position. The application process for most of the other positions begins in late winter and early spring quarters. Resident Advisors (RAs) act as the link between Mesa Court professional staff and the residents, communicating the needs of each group to the other. They assist residents with problems and keep track of what's going on in their halls. They attend weekly meetings with Mesa Court staff and conduct meetings with residents as a group. RAs rotate weeknight, weekend, and holiday duty to be available for emergencies.
They get vast experience working as a leader, influencing their residents, and coordinating efforts with professional staff.
RAs must maintain a 2.4 cumulative and quarterly GPA.
Community Programmers (CPs) promote a feeling of community by organizing fun and educational activities and opportunities to explore more personal kinds of issues in a peer group setting. They are important to the morale of Mesa Court. They attend weekly individual and group meetings with their professional staff supervisor to discuss issues and upcoming events.
CPs have a specific set of program requirements they must fulfill each quarter. In addition to being paid, CPs live in the residence hall. They get experience working as a leader, interacting positively with their residents, and working with professional staff.
CPs must maintain a 2.4 cumulative and quarterly GPA.
Sierra Curriculum Coordinator (SCC) and Sierra Programmer (SP)
The Sierra Programmers work very closely with professional housing staff to conduct and teach a weekly class for Sierra residents. Professional staff and resident staff meet weekly to create and revise the class curriculum as needed.
Sierra Programmers must maintain a 2.4 cumulative and quarterly GPA.
Mesa Court Council (MCC) serves as the voice for the 1,730 residents of the Mesa Court community. The six Executive Board members work as advocates for the residents' issues and concerns. This team is also responsible for implementing traditional events including Haunt the Halls, Mr. Mesa, Casino Night and the annual Semi-Formal and Fashion Show.

What does an MCC Executive Board member do?
MCC E-Board members are selected during the spring quarter for the upcoming academic year. This team meets weekly with professional Mesa Court staff to plan and organize activities and events. MCC E-Board members conduct weekly meetings to allow residents the opportunity to present issues of concern about residence hall living. The MCC office is located in the MAC, and the E-Board members each have weekly office hours.
What does an MCC Hall representative do?
Each hall elects/selects two MCC Hall representatives early in the Fall Quarter. During regular hall meetings, Resident Advisors (RAs) rely on their MCC representatives to present MCC issues or upcoming activity information to the community. The participation of representatives is voluntary and an excellent opportunity for emerging leaders.
The Mesa Court Center Attendants are responsible for providing general information about Mesa Court, and assisting with the overall operation of the Community, Recreation, and Mesa Activity Centers as well as the Housing Office. Such responsibilities include helping to organize, implement and evaluate various types of programs, including tournaments, assisting with the reservation process of rooms and the provision of audiovisual and other recreational and programmatic equipment, forwarding and distributing mail, ensuring the smooth operation of the Computer Lab including monitoring use and equipment, providing advice to Computer Lab users, checking for loss or damage, assisting with the overall maintenance and upkeep of the Centers, and assisting in the completion of various tasks and projects in support of the professional staff of Mesa Court.

The duties of a Conference Assistant include checking in conferees; troubleshooting problems related to conferences; handling petty cash transactions for guests; preparing room assignments, registration and key lists, and damage reports; making and posting directional signs for incoming groups; answering phones; forwarding mail to conferees and prior academic year residents; maintaining daily duty log; and responding to emergencies.
