CP/RA Staff Selection

Overview and Deadlines

Each step of the process is outlined below.  Click on the link to view the specific details.  You are encouraged to print this page so that you can refer to it regularly.

  • Step 1: Attend an Information Session if you'd like more information on the CP/RA positions and/or the selection process
  • Everyone interested in applying for a CP or RA position for the 2012-2013 academic year is strongly encouraged to attend an Information Session. Attending an Information Session will ensure that you have the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding your application.

During each Information Session, we will discuss the expectations for the CP and RA positions, talk about each undergraduate housing community, outline the application process and answer questions from participants.

    Information Sessions:

    • Tuesday, November 29th @ 7:30pm - within each housing community
      • Arroyo Vista: Rec Room
      • Campus Village: Atlantis Lounge of the Community Center
      • Mesa Court: Multipurpose Room
      • Middle Earth: Bucklebury
    • Wednesday, November 30th @ 3:30pm
      • G454 of the Student Center (outside HAS)
  • Step 2: Complete the CP/RA Application Form (The actual application form goes live on Monday, November 21 and is due on Friday, January 13)
  • The CP/RA application is only available online and can be accessed by clicking on the "Apply Now " link. You can apply for any and/or all of the positions.

The application will ask you to attach a resume and answer multiple short answer questions in two separate Word documents. Note: If you are applying to both the CP and the RA positions, you need to address both roles within the short answer questions.

Don’t worry, once you log on to the system and begin the application, you are free to enter and exit the application as often as you wish until you have completed the requested information and submitted the complete application.

The application deadline is 11:59pm on Friday, January 13, 2012.
  • Step 3: Complete the Recommendation Form Requirement
  • Two recommendations are required to apply. Forms can be downloaded from the "Application and Recommendation Form" link.

    Who should I select?

Please carefully choose the people you ask to write your recommendations. We prefer that you not use another student to recommend you. Good choices would be high school teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, religious or youth group leaders, college professors, coaches or administrators, or former employment or volunteer work supervisors. Please give the person plenty of time to write your recommendation and be sure to include the cover letter so they understand the job(s) you are applying for.

    When are they due?
The people writing your recommendations must submit the completed recommendations to cpharaselection@housing.hsg.uci.edu by 9:00am on Monday, January 23, 2012.

(Note: It is your responsibility to ensure that your recommenders submit them by the due date).

  • Step 4: Attend the Individual Interview Process (if selected to continue)
  • Finally, to be considered, selected applicants must go through an individual interview.  Applicants will be contacted by each housing community that wishes to offer them an interview.  Individual interviews will take place on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26 and will take no longer than 30 minutes.

Please note: if you apply to multiple housing communities, you will have multiple interviews with each individual housing community that wishes to pursue your candidacy.
  • Step 5: Expect your CP/RA Notification Letter
  • Letters informing applicants of their status in the process will be delivered electronically to their uci email address on Friday morning, March 16, 2012.
  • Step 6: (If selected): Submit your CP/RA Acceptance Form
  • All applicants offered a position as a Community Programmer or Resident Advisor for the 2012-2013 academic year must formally accept the offer.

The CP/RA Acceptance Form is due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012, to the Housing Office of the complex making the offer. An unofficial copy of your transcript, available free of charge from the Registrar, will be due at the first Spring training class.
