CONFIRMATION OF HOUSING STATUS

AND 2009-10 LEASE RENEWAL

Residents of Palo Verde and Verano Place who hold annual leases should read the important information below regarding lease renewal.*

*Residents who moved in prior to June 1, 2006 are “month-to-month contract holders.” Residents who moved in on or after June 1, 2006 are “annual lease holders.”

• All residents of Palo Verde and Verano Place will receive a Confirmation of Housing Status letter (February), noting housing records regarding their admissions date, academic program, and length of stay limit in housing. Any corrections to this information must be submitted to Housing by March 6, 2009.
• The online Lease Renewal Request form will be open from March 16-April 17, 2009. All residents holding an annual lease must submit a lease renewal request form, even if they do not plan to renew their lease.
• Residents who do not complete the lease renewal request form are expected to vacate their apartment no later than June 30, 2009, when their current lease ends.
• Please note: Housing rental rates will increase July 1, 2009. Residents will be notified of new rates prior to lease signing.

2009-10 Lease Renewal Process

Step 1: ONLINE Lease Renewal Request, March 16-April 17, 2009

• All residents holding annual leases will be sent a link to the online Lease Renewal Request form on March 16. Click on the link and login to indicate whether or not you want to renew your housing lease for 2009-10. All current lease holders MUST complete this form.
• Lease holders who do not submit a renewal request by April 17th, 2009 will be expected to vacate their apartment by June 30, 2009. 
• Residents who do not want to renew their lease for the full academic year may request a limited term extension of their stay beyond June 30, but no later than August 31, 2009. Extension requests are not guaranteed, and will depend on space availability.

Step 2: Lease Renewal Notification by May 11, 2009

• Residents who have requested either a lease renewal or limited extension of stay will be notified via UCI email by May 11th, as to whether their request can be granted or is denied.
• Students who are part of the graduate housing guarantee program will be approved for lease renewal as long as they are within the length of stay limit and meet all other eligibility requirements.
• Lease renewal for residents who hold annual leases but are not part of the guaranteed housing program will be based on space availability after Fall 2009 guaranteed housing obligations are met.
• Limited term extensions will also be based on space availability after Fall 2009 guaranteed housing obligations are met.

Step 3: 2009-10 Lease Renewal or Extension Completion, May 11 - 14, 2009

• Residents who have been approved for lease renewal or limited term extensions will receive email link and instructions to complete the lease renewal or extension no later than May 14th, 2009 11:59 pm.
• 2009-10 Housing Leases will be available online via the link emailed to you on May 11th.
• If you are living with a spouse or domestic partner, he/she will be required to complete the lease renewal or lease extension process as well.  Instructions will be included in the lease.
