CONFIRMATION OF HOUSING STATUS

AND 2008-09 LEASE RENEWAL

Residents of Palo Verde and Verano Place who hold an annual lease should read the important information below regarding lease renewal.*

*Residents who moved in prior to June 1, 2006 are “month-to-month contract holders.” Residents who moved in on or after June 1, 2006 are “annual lease holders.”

• All residents who moved in on or after June 1, 2006 hold an annual lease, which ends on June 30, 2008. All lease holders must complete the lease renewal process.  All residents of Palo Verde and Verano Place will receive a Confirmation of Housing Status letter (February), noting housing records regarding their admissions date, academic program, and length of stay limit in housing. Any corrections to this information must be submitted to Housing by March 7, 2008.
• The online Lease Renewal Request form will be open from March 14-April 14, 2008. All residents holding an annual lease must submit a lease renewal request form, even if they do not want to renew their lease.
• Residents who do not complete the lease renewal request form are expected to vacate their apartment no later than June 30, 2008, when their lease ends.
• Please note: Housing rental rates will increase July 1, 2008. New rates will be available prior to lease signing.

2008-09 Lease Renewal Process

Step 1: ONLINE Lease Renewal Request, March 14-April 14, 2008

• All residents holding annual leases will be sent a link to the online Lease Renewal Request form before March 14th. Click on the link and login to indicate whether or not you want to renew your housing lease for 2008-09.
• Residents who do not want to renew their lease for the full academic year may request a limited term extension of their stay beyond June 30, but no later than August 31, 2008. Extension requests are not guaranteed, and will depend on space availability.

Step 2: Lease Renewal Notification by May 16, 2008

• Residents who have submitted a Lease Renewal Request will be notified by UCI email by May 16th, as to whether their request is approved or denied.
• Students who are part of the graduate housing guarantee program will be approved for lease renewal as long as they are within the length of stay limit and meet all other eligibility requirements.
• Lease renewal for residents who hold annual leases but are not part of the guaranteed housing program will be based on space availability after Fall 2008 guaranteed housing obligations are met.
• Limited term extensions will also be based on space availability after Fall 2008 guaranteed housing obligations are met.
• Residents who have been approved for lease renewal or limited term extensions will be instructed when to come into their local housing office to complete lease signing.

Step 3: 2008-09 Lease Signing, May 1 - 27, 2008

• Lease signing for Palo Verde and Verano Place will take place between
  May 1 - 27, 2008. The new lease term will be July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009.
• Limited term extension leases will also be signed during this time frame, and will be for a specific length of time agreed upon by Housing and the resident, with the maximum term ending on August 31, 2008.
