Overview
Arroyo Vista is currently undergoing a two year renovation project. This work is ongoing and is scheduled to be completed in the fall quarter of 2009. Please review the Summary Overview (PDF) if you wish to learn more about what is taking place in the community regarding this project.
Background
Over the past several years, Arroyo Vista has experienced a number of maintenance problems caused by construction defects dating back to 1993. The AV Operations staff has worked diligently to stay on top of these issues until compre-hensive renovation plans could be developed. The AV renovation project has now been approved and is scheduled to begin in April 2007. In order to keep Arroyo Vista open during renovations, a phased process is planned, spanning both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years. Renovations will also be occurring during summer months in 2007 and 2008.
Phased Renovations and Temporary Moves
Each renovation phase will take roughly one quarter to complete, and a quad of four houses will be repaired during each phase. Residents from those houses will be required to relocate to a designated "temporary quad", consisting of houses 1064, 1066, 1068, and 1070. When repairs are completed, students will move back to their original location. Moves to and from the temporary quad occur during scheduled academic breaks between Fall and Winter, and Winter and Spring Quarters.
Renovation Move Schedule (Please See Updates from the Director)
During the 2007-08 academic year, the following houses are scheduled for renovation that will require those residents to move to and/or from the temporary quad in the time frames indicated:
Spring Quarter 2008 |
| Houses | Move into Temporary Quad |
Move back to House |
| 1014-Kappa Alpha Theta | March 3 – 10 | Fall 2008 |
| 1016-Sigma Phi Epsilon | ||
| 1018-African-Am Studies | ||
| 1020-SAGE Scholars |
The dates specified for moves allow for temporary quad houses to be cleaned before each new group of residents moves in. Residents who cannot move on the specifed dates will be required to put their belongings into temporary storage provided by Arroyo Vista before leaving campus for the break. When they return from break, they can move their belongings from temporary storage to their scheduled living space. Arroyo Vista will provide students with resources to facilitate the move process.
Other Possible Inconveniences During Renovation
Even if the house in which you plan to live is not scheduled for relocation during the school year, you could be impacted by increased noise and dust levels resulting from renovation activities.
