    Arroyo Vista Theme Houses and

Arroyo Vista is a theme house community of sophomores, juniors, and seniors that brings together students with similar interests and provides specialized programming to explore those interests. Transfer Houses are among the theme houses offered in 2009-10, and are designed to support transfer students in their transition to UCI. For more information about all the theme houses we offer please visit the Academic Theme House Descriptions page.

The International Village is a living-learning opportunity (located in the Arroyo Vista theme house community) for students who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of different cultures, share international perspectives, and build friendships with students from around the world. more>>

  • The On-Campus Experience--Why Live on Campus?
  • Studies continue to show that students who live on campus perform better academically, have more contact with faculty, and are generally more satisfied with their overall college experience. Living on campus brings many advantages, including convenient access to campus resources, dining services, the support of our professional and student staff, and many opportunities to form new friendships and a sense of community. Another practical benefit of on-campus housing is that your housing contract locks in your housing costs for the full academic year. If your roommate leaves mid-year, you will not be asked to pay additional rent or find another roommate yourself.

  • Dining Services
  • Students living on- or off-campus can select from a wide range of optional meal plans to suit their particular needs. Each Voluntary Meal Plan comes with a meal allowance and FlexDine dollars. Use your meal plan at all residence hall community dining facilities and at on-campus retail dining locations. Visit the UCI Dining Web site for sample menus and more information on meal plan options: www.ucidining.com.
  • Safety & Security
  • Safety and security are of the utmost importance in each of our on-campus communities. Emergency phones, which connect directly to the UCI Police Department, are located within each housing community and throughout the campus. UCI also provides a safety escort service for students who are traveling by foot at night. Although there is no curfew in any on-campus community, all residential facilities are locked 24 hours a day. Residents’ keys open the front doors to apartments and houses, as well as individual rooms in Arroyo Vista, allowing them to come and go as they please. Residents are discouraged from permitting access to strangers, propping doors open, or leaving their doors unlocked.

  • How are roommates assigned?
  • Roommate assignments are made separately by each housing community with the information you provide on the online Personal Information Form, which you will complete online when you login to submit your electronic Housing Contract (see above). All assigned roommates are of the same gender. Other factors heavily weighed are smoking/non-smoking requests, and sleeping habits.

  • What if I've already picked a roommate?
  • If you and a friend who is also entering UCI want to room together, you can make such a request on the Personal Information Form that you will receive with your housing e-contract. To do so, BOTH of you must hold contracts for the same community (and theme house for Arroyo Vista) and BOTH must mutually request one another on your respective Personal Information Forms.  While every attempt will be made to honor your request, placement with a particular roommate is not guaranteed.
  • When will I find out about my room/roommate assignment?
  • Assignment notification will occur in early September.

  • How far is the housing communites from the center of campus?
  • Arroyo Vista is located next to the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) on the east campus. The walk to campus is about 15 minutes. You can also use the free ASUCI shuttle service which brings students to and around the campus.

Campus Village is located near Ring Road next to the Science Library and the school of Biological Sciences.  Campus Village is close to the center of campus.

  • How many people share a bathroom?
  • In Arroyo Vista Houses, 8 to 12 students of the same gender share a bathroom on their floor that has multiple sinks, showers and toilets.

In Campus Village, 4 residents share 1 bathroom that has an open vanity/sink area and an enclosed toilet and shower area.
  • Are there facilities for washing and drying clothes?
  • In Arroyo Vista, washers and dryers are located in each house.  In Campus Village, there are two 24-hour laundry rooms.  All laundry machines use a laundry-card system.  Laundry-card machines accept cash, credit and debit cards to add value to your laundry-card.

  • What kinds of housekeeping services are provided?
  • In Arroyo Vista, housekeeping services for public areas (including house bathrooms) are provided on a daily basis, Monday through Friday. Individual rooms are NOT cleaned by the housekeeping staff, although vacuums are available for resident use. Roommates are expected to work together to keep individual rooms clean.

In Campus Village, residents are responsible for cleaning their own apartment.

  • What is the alcohol policy?
  • Only residents who are of legal drinking age (21) may consume alcohol in the privacy of his/her room or apartment. Alcohol is not allowed in lounges, study areas, or any other "public" space.

  • Can I bring my car? Where do I park?
  • Parking on campus requires a parking permit.  Residents can purchase a Resident parking permit from the UCI Parking & Transportation Services office. For rates and information, please visit www.parking.uci.edu

  • What are my other housing options?
  • Vista del Campo & Vista del Campo Norte
Vista del Campo and Vista del Campo Norte are privately managed, on-campus apartment communites, offering furnished apartments to single students who are sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students. Most spaces in these communities are assigned to continuing students under the two year guarantee; however, transfer students may apply directly to Vista del Campo or VDC Norte if they choose to. Contact those communities directly for more information.

For information on the two VdC communities, go to: www.vistadelcampo.com

    Off Campus Housing Options

Students choosing to live off campus are invited to come to Housing Outreach Services, located on the 4th floor of the Student Center (G465), for assistance in finding a place to live or a roommate. The Off Campus Housing Web Site provides a directory of nearby apartment communities, current rental rates, lists of local merchants and services, guidelines for signing a lease, living with roommates, and managing on a budget. Housing Outreach Services maintains both computerized listings of housing options available in the community, as well as a list of students looking for others to share a room or apartment. The best time to start your search for off-campus housing for the fall quarter is mid-summer. For information, stop by our office, call (949) 824-7247, email housing@uci.edu, or go to the Off Campus Housing Web Site at http://housing.uci.edu/och
