FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Incoming Students Placed on the Wait-list

PLEASE NOTE: Once the requirements of the housing guarantee program are met for Fall quarter, wait-list applicants will be served by category and application date and assigned as space permits. Please see: Non-Guaranteed Students.

  • Are there priorities for placements from the waitlist?
  • Priorities are given to families with children and graduate guarantee students.
  • Can I get on-campus housing if I am not an incoming Ph. D., M.F.A. or a J.D. student?  And if so, what is the average wait-time?
  • After placement of incoming guaranteed students who meet application deadlines, remaining spaces in Verano Place and Palo Verde will be offered to eligible wait-list applicants.

Students interested in living in Vista del Campo, Vista del Campo Norte, or Puerta del Sol should contact those communities directly for information.

    Vista del Campo Norte (949) 856-4600 vistadelcamponorteliving.com
    Puerta del Sol (949) 737-7000 puertadelsolliving.com

The time between application and offer of an apartment varies depending on space allocation, which assignment category you are in, number of applicants in your Assignment Category with an earlier application date, type of apartment requested, and desired move-in month.
  • What happens for Medical School, Merage School of Business, other Master’s students, and undergrads without children? What is the application process? If there is a wait-list, and once they get in, how long do they get to stay?
  • Students in these categories may apply to get on the wait-list for Graduate and Family Housing after they are admitted. They will be assigned after the guaranteed students, according to their assignment category and application date . There is no guarantee of an apartment offer, and their lease will have an end date of June 30th.  Residents will be notified of lease renewal options during Spring Quarter.

  • What about current graduate students who don’t live on campus right now? If they apply and get a space, what is their length of stay limit?
  • Current graduate students who are offered Graduate and Family Housing from the wait-list will sign leases that end June 30. Requests for lease renewal will be based on space availability. If space allows, Ph.D. students are eligible to remain in Graduate and Family housing for one year less than normative time to degree (beginning when they enroll at UCI).  Master and Law students are eligible to remain in Graduate & Family housing for normative time to degree.

Please note that normative time to degree may not equal the actual time to degree for each student. Consult your graduate advisor if you have questions about your time to degree.
  • Will the wait-list still be date ordered?
  • Yes, waitlist applicants will be offered housing according to their application date within a given assignment category.
  • Will students with children be given any assignment preference?
  • During the lease renewal process, preference will be given to students with children.
  • What differences are there in the amenities available in different housing communities (Palo Verde and Verano Place versus ACC communities--Vista del Campo, Vista del Campo Norte, and Puerta del Sol)?
